Buttercombe Solar Farm

long solar array

Buttercombe Solar Farm will have an export capacity of 15MW and will connect to Braunton substation via the existing overhead line on site.

Due to the local topography there are limited views of the solar farm from Knowle, Braunton and the burrows because of the situation of the site. The project benefits from the existing Ash Wood which reduces views from the south, including many areas situated along the River Taw and across the estuary.

The proposed access route shown avoids traffic through Braunton and Knowle. Instead construction traffic will be routed from A-roads to the north, using the roundabout at Mullacott Cross and then exiting the A361 at Heddon Mill.

Our planning application for the Buttercombe Solar Farm has been submitted to and validated by North Devon Council. Any representations or comments on the application from interested parties should be submitted directly to the council using the online form under the ‘Comments’ section on the application or in writing (letter or email) to North Devon Council, PO Box 379, Barnstaple, EX32 2GR or planning@northdevon.gov.uk quoting the application reference number 80182.

Buttercombe Solar Farm Update December 2025

As a result of public and consultee feedback, we have made further updates to the project layout. The revised plan outlines the newly proposed design including our comprehensive landscape mitigation measures designed to address potential visual impacts. These measures feature significant new planting of trees and hedgerows, positioned to reduce visibility, while enhancing the surrounding environment. Another significant change includes the removal of solar panels and all other associated infrastructure from Field 6, in order to reduce visibility of the Development from the south and west. This change has been made in response to comments received from the Planning Officer and Sustainability Officer. The solar panels and associated planting have also been setback from Ash Road in Field 3.

These changes have been submitted to North Devon Council and all updated documents can be found here – Buttercombe Solar Farm Planning PortalDue to these amendments, there will now be another formal consultation period until the 23rd January for further representations.
