Matt Kendall  is Exagen’s General Counsel & Chief People Officer in charge of attracting the right talent to join the team. He shares his thoughts about why joining Exagen is a smart career move.

Our business is growing rapidly and we are on the hunt for talented people with a wide range of skills to join our team. Founded in 2019, we have already built a significant pipeline of UK solar projects, secured up to £35m of investment from Octopus’ Energy Fund and developed in-house technology to support our market-leading ambitions.

Our work puts us at the heart of the UK’s essential shift towards clean energy, meaning in future as a nation we will be better insulated from global energy price shocks, with cleaner air thanks to local, renewable sources of energy and the UK will be making a tangible, vital contribution to the global battle against climate change.

The time is now for renewables.

In the UK, public support for renewable energy sits at 70% and the number of jobs in the sector is growing four times faster than the overall UK employment market. Exagen has offices in London and Yorkshire, meaning we can play our part in creating jobs and opportunity across the UK.

The UK Government has recognised the importance of solar in a decarbonised energy system and committed to support a quintupling of solar generation by 2035. This means jobs in our sector are central to the future prosperity of the country and the skills that we are hiring and honing today, will be needed for decades to come. Now is the perfect time to join the low carbon energy sector and Exagen, at the core of the transition.

Investing in our staff

In such a rapidly developing sector, it’s no surprise that we invest in our staff’s learning and development, with most of the staff in our young business already having received some form of in-work training. I am also proud to be running a programme of people-focused initiatives to ensure our colleagues feed into how we work, learn from one another and benefit from an ‘open door’ culture that allows staff to help shape the governance of the business.

Our staff are share owners in the business and participate in the profit distribution scheme, plus receiving a wide range of additional benefits.
